Climate Change is Disrupting Arctic Food Webs | PBS LearningMediaLearn how climate change is shifting the delicate balance of Arctic food webs in this video from NATURE: “Arctic Wolf Pack.” Warmer temperatures are leading to rainfall in the winter, which creates a crust of ice over the snow covered ground. Arctic herbivores can’t break through the icy crust to the food below, unlike the regular snow cover which they can dig through. Support materials are available, including discussion questions and teaching tips. For more resources from NATURE, check out the collection page.
Killer Whales and the Changing Arctic | PBS LearningMediaLearn how global warming is impacting the arctic region and opening the door to killers whales, a region once off-limits to this marine animal, in this media gallery from NATURE: Invasion of the Killer Whales. Using video, text-dependent questions, teaching tips, and hard data, students will analyze the effects of warming water on the arctic region and how it’s become a new home for killer whales.
A Warmer World for Arctic Animals | PBS LearningMediaIn this lesson from Clue into Climate, produced by KQED, students will learn about the challenges that climate change presents for four specific Arctic predators. They will explore how such changes ripple throughout ecosystems, habitats, and food webs.
