Drought

GLOBE Soil Moisture Protocol and Learning activities

Detecting Drought Stress in Tree Rings

Use tree rings to look for evidence of drought stress in trees, then use data from My NASA Data to see if precipitation was low in that year.

Also see NASA climate kids info on tree rings.

Climate Change Impacts and Solutions: Drought | PBS LearningMediaIn this set of activities and resources, students learn about impacts of drought through news videos of communities facing serious water shortages, analyze drought data and models from NOAA, and research and evaluate potential solutions. This lesson works well as a component within a larger unit on climate change, its impacts, and ways to address the resulting issues.  For a printable list of all resources in this collection, see Collection at a Glance.
Drought Basics | PBS LearningMediaLearn about the different kinds of drought, including its causes and impacts and ways to assess it, in this slideshow that includes media from NOAA and NASA. Use this resource to stimulate thinking and questions on the complexity of drought and to identify some variables used in defining drought.
